The highlight was seeing the wildebeest migration. Eddie knew exactly when and where to go to see the migration and we viewed it from front row seats. In addition to the wildlife, Eddie took us to local communities to see the various traditions including the Maasai tribe. Learning about the local cultures and the people’s way of life added depth and richness to our experience. On top of Eddie’s professionalism, he is also a truly warm and wonderful person. His has a great sense of humor and endless energy. He kept us laughing throughout the journey giving us 100% and then some. He exceeded all of our expectations. He made our trip a memory to cherish forever.Posted onVerified 8N7D Safari Trip in Tanzania 2 years ago, I began planning for a trip to specifically catch the river crossings in Tanzania during the Great Migration in early September and I'm extremely thankful to Eddie for reaching out to me and offering wonderful advice so our trip could materialise this month. Our trip began with a very nice surprise at the Kilimanjaro airport carpark where Eddie and his wife had prepared a welcoming table of breakfast refreshments. Throughout the trip, Eddie ensured all our needs were well taken care, especially where food, drinks and all logistics were concerned. The lodges that he helped us book were beyond our expectations - rooms were very spacious, facilities were excellent and staff hospitality was superb. Eddie took us on full-day game drives as well, and we managed to catch several epic scenes of wildlife, including THREE wildebeest crossings over a span of three days in the Serengeti, something that I would remember for life. My 11yo daughter and I had the most amazing safari with Edward. He made sure to understand what we wanted to see and tailored the entire trip around that. He knew exactly where each type of animal was likely to be found, and even managed to find the elusive tree leopard on our final day.We passed many other safari companies during our trip and witnessed lots of bad behaviour from other guides (going off the path onto restricted land, getting too close to the animals, etc). Edward has a respect for the animals and the land that is not always found with the big chain safari companies. His passion for his job comes through in everything he does.This is not my first safari - I know they can be filled with many hours of not seeing anything while you travel in/out of the park or deeper into the park to find different animals. Eddie (Excess Africa Owner) custom planned our 10 day trip and was our driver, our expert guide, and the most thoughtful and generous host! The great thing about Tanzania is that we saw EVERY animal in their natural habitat (no fenced game “preserves”) - in every major part of the country. However, this means there’s lots of driving and spending time WITH your guide, so they really make or break your trip!Eddie took exquisite care of us every step of the way, including providing hot lunches (with table, cloth and chairs!) in private spots with incredible vistas. Custom Safari has been his profession for many years, and he knows everything about the wildlife, geography and even all the birds!We couldn’t have enjoyed our trip more and Eddie was “THE Key” to our superior experience. Thanks to Eddie we had an unforgettable African journey. I’ve been back (home) for over a week but I think about Tanzania every day and I miss it a lot. On the first day of August, we drove around the northern end of Serengeti. In the AM, we waited to watch the wildebeests make their way (stampede) across the Mara River which runs through both Tanzania and Kenya. It was quite the sight. Later in the day we saw giraffes, elephants, baboons, hippos, and vultures. We also saw a carcass (baby wildebeest) up in a tree. A leopard had left its remains there (skin and hair) after devouring the insides. By evening, during a sudden downpour, we watched a crocodile eat his dinner (a bloated wildebeest.) What a day! We were able to see so much action on our game drives thanks to Eddie’s keen eye. He knows a lot about animals and can spot them from a distance. He’s very knowledgeable and he understands the patterns and behaviors of every animal. One day, when we came upon the remains of a carcass, he knew what killed him, when it was killed, how it died, which animals had eaten the leftovers (carrion,) and identified the exact species of the dead even though the body was mangled and unrecognizable. He can immediately spot blood patterns and break down what happened at the scene just by looking at the excrement left behind by the frightened prey. We saw so many beautiful animals throughout the safari.
